Vidushi & Guru Late Smt. Rohini Bhate taught & trained Manjiri, through personalized special guidance and she feels extremely fortunate to be blessed with such a guru. Rohiniji, an institution in herself, became a life-long inspiration for her. Manjiri performed as a lead dancer in Rohiniji's compositions & productions.
For over six decades Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate focussed her energies on Kathak, an Indian Classical dance style of North India. Groomed in the art by the Late Guru Lacchhu Maharaj and Late Guru Mohanrao Kalyanpurkar, she evolved a unique & rich style of her own. Guru Rohiniji's multifaceted scholarly interests allowed her to cull the best from oral traditions of India. Her study of music complements her literary creations, giving a novel repertoire of Kathak items.
In her avatars as writer, translator, orator, theoretician, teacher and dancer, Guru Rohini Bhate embodied a harmonious blend of high classicism with contemporary expression, truly a synergistic celebration of performing arts. With her understanding of structure & aesthetics of Talas, her flair for adaptations of oral traditions and her analytical & innovative approach to Abhinaya, Guru Rohini Bhate enriched the Kathak repertoire creating a large corpus of dance compositions: Traditional & Contemporary.
